Two in hospital after house destroyed by fire in Barton

A large 999 response was called to a house in Barton at around 7.35pm following reports of a fire at a first-floor bedroom of the property. 

Fire crews from Leyburn, Richmond and Bedale all attended, alongside ambulance crews from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, there was fire, heat and smoke damage to a table lamp, curtains, adjacent wall and surrounding carpet, alongside slight smoke damage to an en suite and slight smoke logging to the landing.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that two males, aged 16 and 47, suffered slight smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by road ambulance as a precaution.

A spokesperson for the fire service added: “Smoke detectors fitted and activated.

“Crews have used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, triple extension ladder, positive pressure ventilation fan, thermal imaging camera, first aid kit and oxygen therapy.”
