Bolton police carry out speed checks in Smithills

The exercise took place on Church Road in Smithills yesterday, August 3.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “One of our priorities is to make the roads safer in Bolton.

“Yesterday, Team One neighbourhood officers have conducted speed enforcement on Church Road in Smithills. 30mph is a maximum speed limit, not an advisement.”

The speed enforcement comes as part of Operation Portman, an ongoing initiative by Greater Manchester Police, which was set up in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town.

Police have been conducted a number of roadside speed checks in Bolton, some directly in response to concerns by residents.
